The colors of this dark-leaved variegated japanese maple make it an unusual addition to the garden landscape. Spring foliage is a rich red color, slightly on the orange side, and last into the summer. Then the leaves become a rich purplish-brown with tiny green spots, that resemble sprinkled sand. Fall colors are yellow, orange, and red. Reach 7-8 meters at maturity.
