Herter Nursery is a family-owned business started in 1993 by John and Carol  Herter. 

Herter Nursery specializes in Rare and Hard to find Grafted Japanese Maple Trees.  There are several hundred varieties of Acer Palmatums (Japanese maples), with upright growers, lace leaf varieties that canopy, and many that are great for bonsai. We do a much of the Japanese maple grafting, and all the growing right here on our small nursery. Japanese maples are very easy to care for and last for 100's of years! Plant a Japanese Maple today!

We ship grafted Japanese maples,  seedlings, bare root plants and other trees up to 4 feet tall anywhere in the USA.  We specialize in Japanese maples and recently expanding into many woody ornamental plants and vines, including Leyland cypress trees for a nice privacy border.

We graft the acer palmatum, grow the acer palmatum, and sell the acer palmatum right here form our family farm. Buy direct from the grower, acer palmatum's (japanese maples) last for 100's of year, so you can also help the enviroment.

Recently, I had the honor of being approved to take grafting wood from the 100+ year old Japanese maples on the Estate, planted by the very own Frederick Law Olmsted ( the father of American landscape architecture)

The Biltmore has not yet decided how many Japanese maple trees they will keep to preserve the parent trees, but they may release some for sell next year. If you are interested in one of these Japanese Maples let me know and I will start a waiting list for the Biltmore Estate.
